About Bag of Dreams
Bag of Dreams is a game of our own, released under the name Two Trick Pony. It is a roguelite with deckbuilding: every run you draw cards, look for combinations and decide how much risk you still dare to take. The game runs on Windows and macOS.
The challenge
A deckbuilder is quick to make and rarely good. The genre asks for a big pile of cards that strengthen each other without one combination winning everything, and for a reason to draw one more time while you know it can go wrong. We wanted that feeling in a game that looks soft and friendly. So no dark dungeon, but a night-time dream world, with a rule underneath that does bite.
The analysis
The core is push your luck. Every card you draw can bring you closer to your goal, or be a nightmare that places itself and adds nightmare fuel. Too much of that and your night is over.
Every bag has a win condition of its own. That way you are not playing the same game with different cards each time: what counts as a good turn changes too.
Between rounds you visit the Lucid Exchange. Dust buys new fragments for your bag and dream essence grows your Dream Space, so you keep choosing between going wider and getting better.
The tone had to match the word cozy. The art is round, purple and soft, and the nightmares are scary the way a picture book is.
