Why we do the maths before we build AI
The three founders of TopDevs have worked in IT long enough to know how a hype ends. They saw projects swallow months of work without anything ever being used, on a budget that had run out long before the first demo finally worked.
With AI that risk is bigger than with ordinary software, because a convincing demo takes an afternoon and a system you can rely on doesn't. That's why we first work out what a task costs you in hours today; we only build once AI demonstrably takes some of that away. And if a plain automation does the job too, we'll tell you.

What does it cost to have AI built?
It depends on what you need, but you always get a fixed price agreed up front. We look first at where AI demonstrably saves you time, break it into pieces, then quote for what genuinely pays off. A targeted AI step inside an existing process is a matter of days to weeks; a full RAG pipeline over a large archive costs more. Either way, you know where you stand from the start.
How long until an AI solution goes live?
A scoped AI automation is often live within days to weeks. A solution over a large archive takes more time, because the data first has to be processed and made searchable. We work in short iterations, so you see a working version quickly. The exact timeline depends on how clean your data is, and we agree that up front.
Does the AI stay mine, and does it run on my own data?
Yes. We build on your own environment and data, and the code and flows are yours, with documentation and a handover. You're not tied to us. Where sensitive data is involved, we build with shielded access, two-step verification and full logging. Your own team or another party can always carry on with it.
Will AI replace my people?
No, it takes the time-consuming work off their plate. People do the judgement work, AI does the repetition. Your people decide what's relevant and what the tone should be; the AI handles the digging and the first pass. Your team is freed up for the work that actually matters.
Is AI genuinely needed here, or could it be done without?
Often it can be done without, and then we say so. We don't bolt AI onto a process to make it sound modern. We use AI only where it demonstrably returns more. The rest of the chain is ordinary, predictable automation. If an off-the-shelf tool will do, that's what we recommend.
What if the AI makes mistakes or a source changes?
We plan for that up front. Every answer cites the original document, so you can always check it. Where a step needs human judgement, we build in a checkpoint. And we put logging and monitoring underneath, so you'll know when a source goes quiet or a format changes.
